My wife Pauline and I first met Halima in 2007 at her Carved Earth exhibition at Wakefield Art Gallery. Following the exhibition we acquired our first piece, Metamorphosis from Halima. Since then, we have become close friends of Halima, Martyn and the boys Izak and Hannes. Over the years it has been a pleasure to follow her increasing recognition. Her work demonstrates exceptional skill and her carving reflects the qualities of a true sculptor.

Halima 25 is a beautifully illustrated catalogue raisonné. Along with the excellent essays it represents her dedication and courage as an artist of unique standing. It tells a story of Halima and the family’s journey supported by her friend and mentor John Costello and many others.

In 2011 Halima was commissioned to make Phoenix for my retirement as Chief Executive of the London Borough of Islington. It is a piece we love.

With Halima Cassell 25 we can appreciate her exceptional skill as an artist and sculptor and it stands as a barometer of what is to come.
